4 week throwing course - March 2025

Join us at the Charotte Manser Ceramics Studio for a 4- week (one evening a week) throwing course hosted by Charlotte Manser. This course is suitable for beginner to intermediate throwing abilities - even if you have never touched clay before.
Charlotte will assist all students in the group of 8 maximum throughout the session to make improvements, understand techniques and learn a skill.
Students can choose 3 pieces a week to be fired and glazed. All pieces will be ready to collect in 3 weeks post course and throughout, or they can be posted to the student at a cost of £5. Students will dip glaze their own pieces on the final week of the course.
Skill development guidelines:
week 1: throwing cylinders and centering clay
week 2: throwing wider
week 3: throwing taller
week 4: final practice and glazing
Cost - £120 per person
Date - Course will run on Tuesday evenings from the 4th - 25th March.
Time - workshops will be held between 6:30 and 8:30pm.
Materials - all materials will be provided, including clay, glaze and kiln firings.
Location - all workshops will be held at the Charlotte Manser Ceramics Studio, OX129NL. Upon final payment, a pin-drop will be sent to the exact studio location.
Facilities - Our studio contains 12 pottery wheels, handbuilding work benches, a glazing area, a slab roller, an extruder, and many different glazes. Students will not have access to the kilns but work will be fired when dried and weekly kilns will be running.
What to wear - we are in a barn which can get hot when it’s warm out and cold when the weather is chilly.
Dietary Requirements - we can provide hot and cold drinks but if you prefer oat/almond/coconut milk, then please can you bring your own to leave in the fridge!
Deposit - if you choose to no longer attend the course the payment will not be refunded. If the course is cancelled or rearranged by Charlotte Manser Ceramics Ltd then the deposit will be refunded.
How it’s made
How it’s made
All ceramics are handmade in our pottery studio in Berkshire, UK. The pottery is made in small batches of around 30 pieces and is carefully formed over a two day period. After the pieces have dried for a week, they are then fired to 1000 degrees Celsius in our kiln. We then mix the glazes from powders before dipping and pouring the ceramics to create beautiful glaze patterns. The ceramics is then fired again to 1260 degrees Celsius.
